Himanshu Dutta
About Me
I am currently working as a Research Fellow (equivalent to Pre-doctoral Researcher) at Microsoft Research, India. I work with the ReFoRM team under the leadership of Dr. Manik Varma. I am currently working in close collaboration with Lokesh N on machine learning and information retrieval. My current work focuses on improving how dense retrieval models are trained, especially through principled negative sampling and batch construction strategies for contrastive learning. I am particularly interested in systems that learn structured knowledge from text and use it for reasoning, retrieval, and interaction.
Previously, I completed my M.Tech at IIT Bombay under Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya and Prof. Preethi Jyothi, where I worked on document-level machine translation, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic NLP systems.
